Nordic Walking
Would you like to give your arms, shoulders, chester and upper back muscles an additional workout? You may try walking with a pole in each hand. These are called Nordic Poles. One of the favorite walks for people living around snow is cross-country skiing for walkers.
Just put one walking pole in each of your hands; take hold on the top of the pole and gentle push out on each step you take. Each time you move your arms add intensity to your aerobic workout. This not only builds your cardo exercise but overall will help you burn more calories for weight loss. I find when I walk with Nordic poles I also achieve more balance and stability in my walking. However there are other benefits as well; such as: using the poles take some of the load off your lower back, hips and knees, which provides relief if you have arthritis or back problems.
Most walking poles have special rubber tips that grab the pavement and wrist straps that secure the poles to your arms.
I have researched quite a few Nordic poles and am impressed with Exerstrider by Tom Rutlin. By clicking on this link you may have confidence in their Nordic Poles:

“Get ready for Exerstriding! It’s new, it’s hot and it’s coming soon to a neighborhood near you. Exerstriding is a new fitness walking technique that uses specially designed poles to create a total body workout. It firms up stomach, chest and arms, and strengthens the back. It gives you all the benefits of cross-country [Nordic] skiing 365 days a year and is easier to use than a ski simulator.” “ Woman’s Day magazine – summer, 1993
